I am not going to say very much about this book because I was deeply disappointed by it. Of fewer than 600 pages, less than 150 are commentary. Almost all the rest is a source code listing for the Linux 2.2.5 kernel. This listing together with listing for several earlier versions can be found on the CD ROM that comes with the book. I have no doubt that that is the correct place for the listing. The commentary would have been greatly improved had the author provided far more by way of schematics showing the kernel's architecture. Even in the days when I was writing substantial amounts of code, printouts were things that I used for hand-written annotations; as such, I printed what I needed for the day.

In summary, too little content inappropriately presented. Anyone who feels they wish to give a second opinion is welcome to the review copy.
