12-1The last time I looked at a Schaum Outline for a programming
language I was seriously disappointed. I had always found books
from this series to be good revision material and so was surprised
to find material that was poor and often technically flawed. I was
very happy to find that the C++ book and the Essential Computer
Mathematics books were much more what I expect from a Schaum
Outline. I am not so certain about the Java offering, perhaps
someone else with more expertise in this subject area would like to
give that one a thorough look over.
Remember that Schaum Outlines are aimed at being supplementary and revision material for students of the relevant subject. They are not intended to be primary sources of information.
At the US price I would have little hesitation in saying that these books are good value for money. However look at that conversion rate (1.06 dollars to the pound). Considering that these books would normally be stocked by bookshops serving a University there can be no justification (such as saying that the fragmented nature of the UK book sellers) for those costs that effectivel make the books 50% more expensive in the UK.
