Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear directly from the founder of
the Raspberry Pi Foundation! Join the IET Young Professionals at their
free-to-attend event by registering at <a
href="http://conferences.theiet.org/yp-event/index.cfm?origin=accu">the
IET website</a>.
</p>

<p><strong>What is the Raspberry Pi?</strong></p>

<p>
It’s a low-cost, credit-card sized computer that can be plugged into a
TV and a keyboard. This technology has the potential to make computer
programmers of us all – and in particular, the hope is to see it being
used by children all over the world to learn programming. Eben Upton’s
talk will examine the transition from large, high performance “closed”
systems to cheap, low power and potentially disposable hardware.
</p>

<p>
But what does the future hold for these innovative and disruptive
products? Will threats to openness result in complete closure of
future hardware platforms?
</p>

<p><strong>About the speaker</strong></p>

<p>
Eben Upton is the Founder of the Raspberry Pi Foundation and SoC
Architect at Broadcom.
</p>

<p>
During his third year at Cambridge University, Eben co-founded
Ideaworks3D specialising in mobile games and technology, and worked on
Java mobile games to help fund his Computer Science PhD. Since 2006
Eben has worked at Broadcom where he is responsible for processor
architecture.
</p>

<p>
In November 2008, Eben founded the Raspberry Pi Foundation to develop
and market a $25 microcomputer for education.
</p>

<p><strong>How you can be there</strong></p>

<p>
The event is free to attend and will be followed by a drinks
reception. To ensure your seat <a
