Note: when you create a new publication type, the articles module will automatically use the templates user-display-[publicationtype].xt and user-summary-[publicationtype].xt. If those templates do not exist when you try to preview or display a new article, you'll get this warning :-) Please place your own templates in themes/yourtheme/modules/articles . The templates will get the extension .xt there.

Some Corrections

Body:

Dear Francis,

I made a mistake in my article about ED. The "wq" command is only present in some (usually GNU) versions of ED; usually "w" and "q" are separate commands.

In response to my piece about Cocoon, one reader commented that Cocoon is not a Web server but a Java servlet. I did not mean to say that it was a Web server, but perhaps I implied the wrong thing by saying that it was slow "for a Web server". I was also wrong to complain about case sensitivity, since that is the XML standard.

Also, I am sorry about the confusion over GUIDs. Perhaps I misunderstood the employee of Microsoft Research whose talk I went to; I thought he said that IP addresses were used. If they are IEEE 802.1 node addresses then duplication is less likely and will only happen in situations like the following:

  1. We run out of 48-bit node addresses, or a manufacturer re-uses its allocation (I'm told this has happened);

  2. GUIDs are generated faster than the timestamp changes, perhaps by two separate applications running on the same machine at the same time (although the inclusion of process ID and/or a counter would solve that);

  3. The clock is set back, or the network card is swapped with one that had been in a machine with a clock that was ahead;

  4. No network card is visible, and the "cryptographic quality" 47-bit numbers collide more often in practise than in theory.

Best wishes Silas S. Brown
